Image Processing for Detecting Bone Fractures

The bone fracture is one of the most regularly happening musculoskeletal disorders. Fracture mainly occurs when pressure is applied to the bone to a greater extent than the bone can bear. When twisted, bones are delicate. Kick, injury, fall, or direct hit to the body causes bone fracture. Hence, in the medical field, precise diagnosis of bone fracture is an essential topic. Medical image processing plays a vital role by guiding physicians to treat several kinds of disorders, and also to correctly decide about the suitable treatment choices. The image processing technique is immensely useful for several factors like satellite imaging, biomedical, personal image, medicine, and security. The papers aim is to describe a successful system to precisely classify bone fractures based on the information obtained from the X-ray images using image processing techniques. After gaining information from images, several processing methods are applied such as edge detection, pre-processing, feature extraction, and segmentation. According to the results obtained, the bone fracture detection system has a good accuracy of 90%.
