Performance Analysis of 16PSK-OFDM-FSO in Diverse Weather Conditions

One of the promising point-to-point or point-to-multipoint communication systems is Free Space Optical (FSO) systems. Due to its advantageous features, it has evolved into versatile technology for broadband access in future. With the advancements made in technology there still exists some environmental factors like fog, smog, rain, clouds, dust with other suspended particles which may cause interference of the communication channel. Further, this may affect the transceiver performance and the attenuation coefficient of the medium. Also, the increase in levels of attenuation results in increased losses and need to be carefully monitored. Therefore, to overcome these challenges faced by FSO-OFDM point to point laser communication system, 16-PSK-OFDM-FSO communication system is proposed. The proposed communication model is examined and analyzed under cloudy and rainy weather conditions. This paper thoroughly investigated and simulated the attenuation of the atmosphere under various situations and assessed the impact of these conditions. Further, the efficiency and efficacy of the proposed model is examined with the help of SNR, constellation diagrams and attenuation curves as a function of visibility. Additionally, the SNR vs. BER curve for various weather conditions showed that the value of BER decreases more for cloudy than for rainy weather reaching 10–20 for rain and 10–25 for cloud, respectively.
