SRR integrated CDRA Hybrid Antenna for 5G mm-Wave Communication

A compact hybrid antenna with split ring resonator (SRR) and circular dielectric resonator (CDRA) has been presented. The proposed hybrid antenna has been designed in CST simulation software for 5G mm-Wave communication. The antenna parameters are analyzed for single patch antenna, but as expected patch antenna gives low gain and decreased radiation efficiency, but after incorporating two resonating structure gain and efficiency has been enhanced. CDRA is placed on the top of patch antenna with microstrip feed. A microstrip patch resonates due to SRR and CDRA at its resonant frequency. The proposed design obtains 4.07dBi of gain and 4.84dB of directivity at 28 GHz, 4.55dBi gain and 4.47dB directivity at 38GHz frequency band. The radiation efficiency is 97% and fractional bandwidth is 3.371 %. The proposed hybrid antenna operates perfectly in between 27.6-28.5 GHz and slightly less on 38 GHz. These frequencies correspond to high frequency mm-Wave band (24–40 GHz) for 5G communication.
