Distributed Monitoring-based Fault Location Method for UHV Transmission Lines

The line fault location method using traveling wave is subject to traveling wave velocity error and transmission line length error. This paper analyzes the advantages of distributed fault location. Multiple smart devices are used to monitor the line’s traveling wave speed on-line to reduce the influence of wave speed measurement errors and transmission line length errors as much as possible, so as to more accurately locate faults. By analyzing the split-phase current in the fault component, the faulty phase and section of the transmission line are located based on the principle of phase difference. Combine the phase difference of the fault current component with fault location method based on distributed equipment, and formulate the fault location process of UHV transmission line based on distributed online speed measurement.
