Research on a Length Measurement Method of Graphite Electrode Based on Heat Conduction

With the development of computer technology and sensor technology, the use of sensors to measure the length of electrodes and let computers replace manual control has become the development trend of intelligent measurement of electrodes in mine furnaces. Based on the theory of heat conduction, we propose a method to measure the length of the electrode by the difference in the relative point temperature information of the graphite electrode during operation. When the mine hot furnace is working normally, due to the temperature difference between the hot surface and the cold surface, heat transfer from the hot side to the cold side occurs on the electrode. At this point, we can use the difference between multiple temperature indication signals, the thermal conductivity of the electrode material, the heat flux at the same time, and the estimation of the temperature at the hot surface of the electrode to determine the position of the hot surface of the electrode and the length of the electrode at this moment. Electrode length measurements using thermodynamics are more accurate, while avoiding physical hazards to staff and further resource depletion.
