Analysis and Multi-Objective Optimization of the Hybrid Excitation Switched Flux Machine

In this paper, a hybrid excitation switched flux (HESF) machine is analyzed and multi-objectively optimized to achieve a better overall performance by considering the torque density, torque ripple, flux regulation capability and the DC winding induced voltage. One optimum HESF machine design having high torque density and flux regulation capability is obtained through optimization. In order to suppress the DC winding induced voltage and torque ripple, the performance of the optimum HESF machine with and without five-step skewed rotor are analyzed and compared. It is found that the HESM machine having the skewed rotor can suppress the peak-to-peak value of the DC winding induced voltage by 35.96% from 163.67 V to 104.82 V and torque ripple from 19.66% to 8.55%, whilst the average torque can be maintained by >90%.
