Manipulation and Detection of DOS attacks on IEEE802.11 Protocol

When the concept of Wi-Fi was first commercialized, it didn't take much time to become a household term. The comfort and easy of using a Wi-Fi network was unparalleled with the limited speed that mobile data was providing at the early years. But the general public have not been educated enough on the vulnerabilities of Wi-Fi networks. Almost all household WI-FI networks are vulnerable due to the older encryption standards. Even though advancement has been made in the field with latest versions becoming more and more reliable, the commercial viability of the latest versions is not that bright due to difficulties of connecting with existing devices. A vulnerable WI-FI network compromises all the data present in the devices connected to it and much more. Our work is a proof of concept of how easily a Wi-Fi network can be deauthenticated using a simple device specifically designed for reducing time and complexity of the process. The purpose of our work is to bring to light the vulnerability that devices are in due to the Wi-Fi networks they connected to. This will help change all device manufacturers to adapt to safer Wi-Fi standards thereby making the industry level up in safety standards. This work will make us understand that no serious amount of time, knowledge in IT and resources such as computers are required to de-authenticate a Wi-Fi network thereby making us realize the necessity of safer Wi-Fi standards. This paper also discusses various Wi-Fi vulnerabilities and how to exploit them, as well as a way to detect DOS attacks on Wi-Fi networks.
