Design and Analysis of Inverted F Planar Tri-band Antenna for Short Range Applications

Micro Strip Patch antennas are used for High frequency communication, and a Planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) is one type of such antenna with the reduced size of antenna for mobile communication. It is an integrated, portable, wide band antenna with a gain of 0dBi-2dBi and a frequency range of 0.9GHZ-2.4GHZ. A 0.044 mm substrate height and 3.9 relative dielectric constant was found to have a VSWR< 3:1 and cover the frequency ranging from 0.9 to 2.4 GHz. The Inverted F-shaped ground plane is incorporated into the design at the price of bandwidth in order to further minimise size. An inverted L section, a planar element and a radiating element with slots etched on Both sides of the substrate are used to form the PIFA. The antenna is fed by 50 Ω coaxial connector because of its huge impedance bandwidth. Over the operational band, the radiation pattern is multi path. The antenna is a desired component for usage in a variety of mobile communication systems due to its small size and broad bandwidth.
