Influence of different pressures on the charge accumulation characteristics of cable/accessory

In the actual coaxial structure cable, both the cross linked polyethylene (XLPE) cable insulation and the ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) accessory insulation would be subject to a certain extrusion pressure along the cable radial direction. The existence of this pressure would affect the transport characteristics of space charge in the cable and accessory insulation, which could affect the aging characteristics of cable accessories and even accelerate the insulation breakdown. In this research, the charge transport characteristics of cable insulation under different pressures were studied based on the improved pulse electro-acoustic (PEA) device. In addition, the interface charge accumulation behaviors of the XLPE cable and EPDM accessory double layer samples under the different pressures were also measured, the mobility of the space charge under different pressures was explored. This research is helpful to understand the action mechanism of pressure on charge transport dynamics and promote the optimization design of cable accessory.
