Diagnostics of Overhead Line Insulator State based on Leakage Current Regression Analysis

The technical policy of the majority of power grid companies around the world implies a gradual transition from a system of scheduled preventive repairs to risk-oriented approach in asset management as a solution to the equipment aging problem. Operation of OHL insulation is not different, but despite the fact that the accumulation of pollution is predictable enough, there are currently no effective ways to identify the risk of insulation flashover in order to plan its renovation. We propose a new method for assessing insulator state using leakage current parameters to enable transition to the risk-oriented approach in insulation management. The method is based on multiple linear regression model, which uses leakage current parameters as input data and provides critical flashover voltage of insulator string as output. The model standard deviation is in the framework of 12.5%.
