Enhanced authentication system with robust features for the secure user template

Biometrics has evolved into a crucial instrument for a user’s authentication in the modern world. Biometrics is gaining prominence as a method of authentication and is a viable alternative to existing methods. One of the most prevalent biometric traits is fingerprint recognition. It is quite accurate and societally acceptable. Despite their popularity, fingerprint-based biometrics have certain security problems. The minutia points in a fingerprint serve as a template, and the database stores the user template during enrolment. Many studies have proven that constructing an original fingerprint from such a user’s template is doable. In fingerprint-based authentication mechanisms. This is a significant security risk and has become a big issue. The proposed method is an extension of Sharma et al.’s technique. They create a three-dimensional user template using a person’s fingerprint. We have enhanced their technique through the modification of the user template. The template is modified by adding the minutia point information considering the unique point as the fourth dimension of the template for users using a user key set. Hence, we proposed a 4-dimensional user template created using the user’s fingerprint. In case of a template getting compromised, a new template involves the use of a fresh set of user keys that can be generated from the same fingerprint. The FVC2002 [DB1], FVC2002 [DB2], and FVC2002 [DB3] fingerprint databases were used to evaluate our method. The results achieved are extremely encouraging and shows the feasibility of the proposed method.
