A Developed Centralized Stable Clustering Approach for Vehicular Networks

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET) represent the significant technology to improve Intelligent Transport Systems (ITSs). Advances in information and network technologies are utilized in developing vehicular networks. Vehicles can communicate wirelessly with each other and with other infrastructure or Roadside Units (RSUs). Vehicular network topology is frequently changing due to high vehicle speeds. Vehicle clustering is a reliable approach to improve vehicular communication. In this paper, a Modeling and simulation approach is implemented using a multi-agent programmable modeling environment (Net Logo) to propose a new centralized stable clustering approach proposed centralized stable clustering approach. In this proposed stable clustering approach, a RSU is utilized to perform the role of the cluster head. Each cluster is created based on certain specified spatial area. Each cluster is known as stable when it stays a long time without changing its cluster head. The cluster size is created based on the RSU coverage area. Each RSU can create an isolated cluster containing all the vehicles within its coverage area. Each time the cluster members are changed while the cluster head is fixed. In each time period, a number of vehicles will leave their cluster and joins the ahead cluster while others join this cluster from the back cluster.
