A Review on Enhancement Techniques for Historical Document Images Using Binarization

Majority of historical document taken in real life as printed documents images or scanned document images suffers from inadequate contrast and noise. To improve the quality, their contrast must be improved and the noise must be eliminated. Image enhancement techniques, which enhance image appearance to clear view by minimize of noise, boosting contrast. and revealing details are notable crucial stages in processing of an image enhancing. Due to noise and degradation in historical document image, word extraction and text recognition may be difficult. As a result, this paper's contribution is to review historical document image enhancement methodologies, attempt an evaluation of flaws and general needs in this area of on-going research and provide prospective avenues for image enhancement research for future studies.
