Clinical Waste Storage System with Contamination Prevention Mechanism using UV and Arduino Microcontroller

To minimize the risk of accidents and injuries related to biomedical waste, it is important for hospitals and other healthcare facilities to follow proper handling protocols and to ensure that their waste management practices are in compliance with applicable regulations. This may involve training employees on proper waste handling techniques, using appropriate containers and storage areas, and properly labeling and packaging waste materials before they are transported for treatment or disposal. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has designated common biomedical and waste treatment facilities as “Red Category Industries” because of the high quantities of pollution they produce. In accordance with the 2016 CPCB rules revisions. As the workforce is exposed to medical and bio hazardous waste, the procedure of transporting and treating hospital garbage is time-consuming, dangerous, and infectious. Storage of hospital biological waste should not last more than 24 to 36 hours. To assist the hospital in maintaining a clean environment for the patients, employees, and visitors, frequent and safe trash disposal should be followed. This is accomplished through robotic trash transfer from Multifunctional Bins that use the RTOS approach. The trash collected from smart bins consists of Arduino Uno based microcontrollers with UV sterilization bulbs and sensors. Easy to navigate and move safely in a human populated environment. These bins are specially designed to carry various goods that need to be transported. This project consists of Contamination prevention with the UV light inbuilt system to provide the outer surface contamination control and to maintain the safe space to handle the waste.
