Design and Improvement of a Wideband Angled Dipole Array Antenna for S-band Applications

This paper investigates the design and optimization of the dipole array antenna. Unlike conventional dipoles, the presented work contains eight dipole antennas connected to a feedline having an angle of 250. Moreover, the non-uniform distance between consecutive elements as well as different dipole lengths helps in achieving a wideband antenna having a compact size. The antenna is designed using a 3.175 mm thick ROGERS 5880 substrate and the optimized antenna offers |S11| < –10 dB wide impedance bandwidth ranges from 1.86 – 4.12 GHz along with a peak gain of more than 6.8 dB in the operational region.
