Mixed Backscatter Communication for Patrol Inspection System

Backscatter communication is one of the key technologies for building a maintenance-free wireless network in the future. This paper proposes a mixed backscatter communication framework, which combines backscatter and Harvest-Then-Transmit (HTT) modes for patrol inspection systems, and derives the outage probability and age of information (AoI) expression of the mixed backscatter communication. The average AoI and throughput of the mixed backscatter communication for patrol inspection systems is analyzed, and an optimization scheme for backscatter coefficient and slot allocation of sensor nodes is given by improved particle swarm optimization algorithm. The comparative experiments designed in this paper prove that the mixed backscatter communication has great application potential in patrol inspection systems requiring low average AoI and high throughput, which can provide a new insight for the resource allocation of the backscatter communication of patrol inspection system.
