Modified PI Controller For BLDC Motor In Electric Vehicle Applications

The significant increase in the popularity of electric vehicles has once again brought attention to their motors and power electronics. The two most researched types of motors used for electric vehicles are the DC motor and the three-phase induction motor, while developing countries have opted for their own solutions, namely the Brushless DC Motor (BLDC). However, the three-phase BLDC motor has received less attention and presents a challenge in terms of controlling its transient and steady state response, overshoot, rise time, settling time, among other factors. If the control is not properly managed, it may cause the system to become unstable and reduce the lifespan of its components. This research paper focuses on studying a BLDC motor for electric vehicles using the Modified Proportional Integral (MPI) controller and logic gates for the drives. The proposed design allows for a 0.74% reduction (1000 rpm) and a settling time of 0.5 of the overshoot in seconds. This study is expected to make a significant contribution to the application of BLDC motors, particularly in electric vehicles.
