Wireless Body Area Network: Communication Standards and Radio Technologies employed

Rapid technological advancement in the field of Sensor Communications has paved the path in the evolution of Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN). This technology provides novel applications in a variety of domains like the medical industry, entertainment, and ambient intelligence. WBANs are expected to play significant roles in psychology, medicine, and other fields. WBAN is optimized for use in healthcare applications by utilizing a multitude of bio-sensors to monitor patients, detect life-threatening illnesses and report to the care-takers. Bio sensors data routed to the servers can be used for further analysis. Quality of service (QoS), Energy efficiency, and security challenges like data loss, authentication, access control, and privacy concerns, are just a few of the problems that WBAN encounters. This paper provides a general overview of WBAN. Further various Communication standards and Radio Technologies employed in WBAN are discussed.
