Power Quality Improvement of Integrated PV System with PID Controller Based Shunt Active Filter

This article presents a PID controller based solar system fed shunt active harmonic filter for enhancing the quality of power by reducing the load harmonics. In recent years nonlinear loads are exploring the distorted waveforms that affect the distribution system. This proposed system consists of a grid, nonlinear loads and a shunt active harmonic filter (SAHF) with the solar system. SAHF mitigates the line current harmonics, reactive power and poor power factor. The SAHF system is made up of a three-leg Voltage Source Converter (VSC) and DC power from a PV system. The first stage of this two-stage system is a DC/DC boost converter that uses the MPPT algorithm. The P&O method is used to extract the maximum power. PID controllers and Hysteresis controllers are used to calculate reference currents. The PWM-VSC is driven by current controllers. To reduce harmonics and reactive power, the proposed PV-based SAHF is used with a diode rectifier load.
