SUMO-Network: Generating and Remodeling Real World Map using osmWebWizard and NETEDIT

With the increase in population, the number of vehicles on the road also increases. As a result, urban areas are filled with vehicles, which has led to significant congestion. The urban traffic problems can be solved by deploying Intelligent Transportation System with existing infrastructure. The strategies developed to solve the problem need to be tested for the effective traffic management of the entire city. Testing in the real world is more expensive. Therefore traffic simulators are used to virtually test and enhance techniques before implementation. The simulator uses the real-world map and real-time traffic information for this purpose. The real-world map imported from open street map/osmWebWizard contains faulty information that must be corrected before running the simulation. This paper provides a detailed procedure for importing a real-world map from osmWebWizard and modifying the map's internal elements to replicate the real world for simulation. The modified network gets rid of unrealistic simulation results.
