Overview of Recent Cyberattacks: A Systematic Review

The world now revolves around automated processes and communication between individuals, communities, organizations and indeed Nations which has caused a surge in usage of the cyberspace. With this surge comes the high risk in security and control. Cybersecurity has become an increasingly growing sector and has attracted huge fundings to curb the menace of cyberattacks, however, the risk that the cyberattack trend poses, continues on the rise. The cyberattacks on information systems and how they can be drastically reduced is considered primitive to effective cybersecurity. The risks associated with any cyberattack depends largely on three important factors: impacts (what damage the attack causes), vulnerabilities (the weaknesses being exploited), and threats personality (perpetrator of the attack). Majority of these cyberattacks have limited impacts, as it can be seen in the duration before which the affected organization recovers from the impact. This article reviews some of the most recent cyberattacks, the vulnerability exploited, the damage caused and the threat sources cascading the most recent modes of attacks being exploited by modern perpetrators causing this menace in the cyberspace.
