Analysis of Reliability of Mine Electrical Power Systems

A body of failure rate data on mine electrical power system components has been collected over the last decade. These data have been primarily used to assess the safety of mine electrical power systems. The same techniques that were used to develop a prediction model for electrical safety are now used to assess the reliability of mine electrical power systems. The value of such a model is that it allows mine managers to make quantitative judgments on the allocations of capital expenditures to increase mine productivity, of personnel devoted to electrical power system maintenance and of resources for spares and replacement parts. In addition, parametric analyses allow the critical components affecting the reliability of mine electrical systems to be determined.
