EPIC: Transitioning DART I&T from a Human-to-Human Process to a Digital Environment

In January 2020, the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) introduced a new software tool for drafting and executing Integration and Test (I&T) procedures for the space system development. The Electronic Procedure Implementation Catalog (EPIC) software was created in order to modernize and digitize the process of procedure drafting, approval, and execution. This paper will introduce EPIC and discuss the challenges, outcomes, and lessons learned of transitioning from a paper-based, intensely human-to-human process to a digital environment in the context of the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) I&T program.
