Peer-to-Peer Self-Driving Car Rental: A Case Study on the Development and Limitations of a Novel Transport System

Peer-to-peer (P2P) car-sharing scheme has been increasing recently through online platforms. Peer-to-peer car-sharing schemes can be utilized to put extensively available but still untapped resources of unutilized vehicles to use. The objective of this paper is to observe the impact of a peer-to-peer self-driving car rental system on the economy, its standard in the market and analyze the attitude of the people towards this scheme through a survey and give insights into the application being developed to address the gap analyzed in the peer to peer self-driving car sharing market. A survey was conducted with 141 participants, and the results allowed us to determine how much participants knew about the business model, how emotionally attached they were to their personal vehicles, and how much money would attract them towards this idea. Based on the collaborative consumption business concept, we also suggested an online platform to tackle the gap.
