Exploration of Current Image Cryptography Techniques

Data transmission has grown at an exponential rate with the advancement of information technology. To maintain trust in technology, it is necessary to protect user privacy while sharing any type of data. With the global expansion of multimedia technologies, information shared between individuals is no longer limited to text. Various methods of sharing digital images with ensured security have been developed since the evolution of digital images as a medium of communication. This article will review various image cryptographic techniques that have been developed over the last decade. For instance, image cryptography using genetic image cryptography, a Chaos-based approach with Matrix array symmetric key, Elliptic Curve Cryptography and Multidimensional Chaotic Maps (also supporting authentication), and Discrete Cosine transform are discussed. Methods that allow enhancement in standard methods of cryptography are also studied. Different aspects of Information communication, like scalability, efficiency and security are taken into account while evaluating and comparing the cryptography approaches. This work further focuses on providing details about the features that are supported by the before mentioned techniques of image cryptography.
