Age Estimation Using Demirjian Eight Teeth Method In Maxillary Left Molar and Mandibular Left Molar In Indian Population

Age estimation is mostly beneficial in the scenario of crime investigation or any mass tragedy to identify the correct person among a huge number of probable matches. Naturally, what skeletal components are present and what overall age is depicted affect the choice of effective procedures. When analysing a mature person’s skeleton, different methods are used to determine age at death in foetus, newborn, toddler, and other immature persons. The purpose of the study is to evaluate age estimation in the upper left and lower left utilising the Demirjian 8 tooth method. A study sample of 200 OPG (100 males and 100 females) were gathered from patients in the department of forensic odontology at Saveetha Dental College who were between the ages of 10 and 20. The patients had come to our facility between 2010 and 2014. Patients’ private information was noted. SPSS software was used for the statistical analysis, and an independent t test was conducted to determine the p value. The association between real age and male staging 28 of the Demirjian technique has a statistically negligible p value of 0.568¿0.05. Actual age in males and staging 38 of the Demirjian technique have a statistically negligible correlation of p = 0.419¿0.05. There is a statistically negligible correlation between the actual age of females and stage 28 in the Demirjian technique (p value = 0.285¿0.05). There is a statistically negligible correlation between the real age of females and stage 38 in the Demirjian technique (p value = 0.458 ¿ 0.05). In both boys and females in the Indian population, the individual’s real age did not appear to be correlated with the staging of the Demirjian approach. Moreover, larger sample sizes can be used in studies to produce accurate results.
