Road Condition Monitoring and Information System: Survey

Automated Systems for road condition monitoring and providing necessary information to the concerned authorities about damaged areas of roads for timely maintenance of road infrastructure are gaining lot of attention among smart city applications. Potholes detection is one of the prime task of road condition monitoring. There are various technologies developed to detect potholes using accelerometers, image analysis and other sensors. In this paper, we provide comprehensive survey on various methods of potholes detection and provide comparison of study of all the methods. The paper also discusses various issues addressed such as variation in weather conditions, variation in size and shape of potholes and presence of noise or similar objects on road.
