Design of an Automated, Digital Water Tank Heating System

This paper presents the design and development of a Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD)-based water heating control system. This system will primarily monitor and control the temperature by keeping it between two preprogrammed points (setpoints) and sounding an alarm when the temperature gets any higher than the maximum allowed temperature. The temperature is controlled by switching the heating element ON and OFF. The system will also monitor and control the water level inside the tank., by keeping it between two established points (a minimum and a maximum point) opening an inlet valve to let in more water when the water volume gets too low. An Algorithmic State Machine (ASM) and a Finite state Machine (FSM) are developed from the working principle of the Electric Storage Tank Water Heater System. Subsequently., the timing diagram is used to simulate and verify this system. The experimental results show that the scheme is reasonable and feasible as well as meets the design requirements.
