Proactive Actuator Update Management for Reliability Enhancement in Cyber-Physical Systems

Operating electronics at elevated temperatures can severely reduce expected lifetime. Many cyber-physical systems operate in environments where it is challenging to maintain effective thermal control while still providing adequate Quality of Control (QoC) to the physical plant. We explore an approach where control updates are proactively cancelled based on the current plant state. Such an approach remains responsive to changes in the operating environment while providing the user with a useful means to reduce cyber-side thermal stress and enhance cyber lifetime. In addition, demand on the energy subsystem is reduced.
