Characteristic Analysis of Improved Transverse Flux Linear Synchronous Motor Integrated Propulsion, Levitation and Guidance for Maglev Train

Propulsion, levitation and guidance (PLG) are the major technologies for maglev train. An improved structure of transverse flux linear synchronous motor (TFLSM) is presented in this article, which can simultaneously realize the PLG functions of the maglev train by only one electromagnetic device. Firstly, the topological structure and the operating principle of the TFLSM are analyzed. Secondly, the three-dimensional (3-D) analytical model of TFLSM is proposed, in which the analytical expressions of inductance and electromagnetic forces are obtained. Finally, the 3-D force characteristics of the TFLSM at different supply current values, different air gap length and transverse offsets are calculated. The theoretical analysis results are compared with the experimental results of the test prototype, which verify the effectiveness and correctness of the analytical method.
