Estimation Of Cardiotocogram Using Fetal Phonocardiogram*

Fetal phonocardiogram, or the electronic recording of fetal heart sounds, is a safe and easily available signal indicating fetal well-being. However, due to its low signal-tonoise ratio and poor reliability, it is seldom used to monitor the health of the fetus. Instead alternatives like cardiotocogrpaphy (CTG) and ultrasonographic examinations are the standard of care, which are costly and cumbersome to perform. In the present study, an attempt is made to obtain a fetal heart rate variability graph similar to cardiotocograph. This graph can be used to observe clinically important parameters like average fHR variability, accelerations, and decelerations. Presence of acceleration or decelaration gives an important clue on fetal health and can be used for continuous monitoring of fetal in risky pregnancy in a less expensive way.
