Multi-Port Dual-Active-Bridge DC-DC Converter for Bi-Polar DC Microgrid Application Using Buck-Boost Voltage Balancer

This paper proposes a multi-port dual-active-bridge (DAB) converter combined with the buck-boost voltage balancer circuit where multiple renewable energy sources (RESs) are involved. Various types of renewable sources such as fuel cells (FCs), photovoltaic (PV), and batteries can be employed as inputs of the proposed converter along with a two-port voltage balancer circuit as an output. Therefore, the additional converters are removed from the structure of the bipolar microgrid. The proposed converter offers a reduced number of components and switches compared to the previous topologies. Moreover, the modulation and control of the proposed converter are more convenient than the previous ones since the number of switches is decreased and the output voltage feedback control is not required under unbalanced load situations. The performance of the proposed structure is validated by simulation results using MATLAB/Simulink software and the experimental test. Simulation and experimental outcomes approve the theoretical development and reveal the usefulness of the proposed conspire.
