Critical Selection of Single Sided Slot In-Wheel Synchronous Motor Geometry For Low Power Electric Vehicle

The demand for electric vehicles (EVs) growth exponential in the last few years, due to increasing fossil fuel prices and environmental pollution caused by internal combustion engine transportation. The essential subsystem of EVs is the electrical machine drive. The high torque and power density of neodymium material-based single-sided slotted permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) meet desired characteristics of In-wheel EVs compared to all other machines. The main issue in the motors is torque ripple, this can be eliminated by designing the selection of motor slots per pole per phase in stator slot opening width and rotor pole magnet width. In this paper, critical aspects of developing the motor geometry parameters for In-wheel low-power EVs are proposed. A single-sided axial flux in-wheel motor was selected for the electric scooter for 1.5 kW, 750 rpm. The proposed topology designed V-shape magnet at 20 rotor pole shape and 24 stator slot poles are discussed. The direction toward the critical selection of In-wheel step-by-step motor inputs and outputs geometry parameters to improve efficiency and minimise torque ripples are discussed. Additionally, discussed the motor characterization and results.
