The Future of Transportation: A Review of Electric Vehicle Charging Management and Navigation

Electric Vehicles (EVs) have emerged as a viable option to make a transportation system more environmentally friendly. Customers are waiting for a robust charging network so they can be sure their journeys will be successful and free of charging delays. Additionally, the owners of the charging infrastructure must wait until there are enough EVs on the road before they can begin to profit. The existing literature analyses the charging management and navigation plan as two separate entities. However, charging management and navigation are intertwined in a way that the charging station’s availability of power, queuing, charging slots related management are input to the navigational strategy of EV user. The ease with which an EV finds a charging station, determines how well charging and navigation is managed. In this paper, we have classified the charging regime based on the status of an EV on arrival at the Fast Charging Station (FCS). Whether the EV is being charged directly on arrival or has to wait in a queue gives rise to specific parameters like arrival time, charging time, waiting time, and how the navigation strategies contribute to the development of each parameter is the essence of this article.
