Performance Analysis of Standalone PV System using System Advisor Model- A Case Study

Standalone Photovoltaic systems are alternate power generation systems which are independent of grid connectivity. They require additional PV installations which can increase cost for a remote setup. Standalone systems are designed to operate independently of the electric utility grid and normally work through battery backup so as to use electrical power during less or no irradiance typically during night when sun energy is not available. This paper studies many Performance parameters to be considered before setting up a standalone system at a selectlocation. The monthly average of atmospheric pressure, dew point temperature, wind speed and direction, average beam irradiance, average global irradiance, average diffuse irradiance are analyzed for a test location. Average DC power can be estimated based on several input parameters using system advisor model tool which provides necessary design for a standalone power plant to be setup. Also monthly irradiance prediction leads to better load management for solar power plants. This is useful for an individual to take necessary action before setting up a solar plant at any remote location.
