Internet of Things based Rainwater Harvesting and Distribution Management System through Mobile Application

The scarcity of water has become a predominant problem all over the world. Thus, there is a need for technological intervention to find solutions to the existing water shortage and make the world a better place to live. Rainwater harvesting is a method performed from the roofs of buildings and houses. The proposed system is an idea to modernize rainwater harvesting through different hardware and software controlled with a user-friendly interface. The general setup consists of tanks, valves, sensors, and motors using the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud service. The rainwater is sensed, collected, and then filtered before reaching the storage tanks. The water levels are measured, and then it is directed to the tanks accordingly. Data from all the sensors are simultaneously updated to the Thingspeak application. The water from the reservoir or storage tank is then directed to house tanks based on sensor data and user requirements. With the help of a mobile application, this water can be directed to a particular house area for usage. The proposed system help to smoothly distribute the collected rainwater to particular points in the house based on the user selection and save the use of groundwater.
