A Smart Garbage Bin With A Mobile And Fill Level Tracker App

Human population growth has led to a corresponding increase in the amount of waste generated. The issue of waste management has been a major concern to many people in recent times. Poor waste management allows for unsanitary conditions, which fosters disease spread. In Ghana, urban areas generate a wide range of waste materials, which are disposed of by dumping openly, burning openly, controlled burning and tipping at dumpsites. Solid waste management has long been a major concern because of the numerous environmental consequences faced when it is not properly managed. The proper management of solid waste is critical for improving the environment’s state as well as the well-being of persons and other living species. This project suggests a more efficient and effective trash management system. This project proposes and designs a smart bin with features to address some of the above-mentioned problems. The designed system is a smart bin that automatically opens when a user gets close to it, detects bin fill levels and compresses trash if a certain threshold is exceeded, to regulate fill levels. Since it is less stressful to monitor waste from a remote location, a Wi-Fi module is used to update a mobile application with bin fill-level data.
