Analysis of High Gain DC-DC Converters for DC Microgrid

DC microgrids are considered a key component of smart grids, which will make the power grids more reliable, obtain good power quality and system energy efficiency, and provide the possibility of being independent of the grid for individual users. Compared with traditional power grids, DC microgrids have the advantages of enhancing combinations of distributed and renewable energy and reducing energy consumption. There are many applications in real life. It is significant to apply high-gain DC-DC converters in specific conditions in order to increase voltages of low-voltage DC power sources like photovoltaic power sources and small wind turbines in DC microgrids. This paper describes the basic principles, voltage gain formulas, and components used and their quantities in the classical boost converter, Double-Duty-Triple-Mode converter, and quadratic voltage gain converter, compares and analyzes these parameters, analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of these converters, and obtains the results to draw conclusions in the end of the paper.
