Structure Design and Analysis on Crane Boom Detection Device

The crane boom, as the main load-bearing component in the lifting process of the crane, is susceptible to cracks and other defects caused by the bending moment when lifting the load. For the purpose of defect detection of crane boom, a device is designed to automatically crawl along the boom and carry out full-coverage detection of the boom’s magnetic field. Based on the profile and variable section of the boom, the detection device is modeled in three dimensions with SolidWorks. The detection device was statically analyzed at the maximum boom elevation with the finite-element simulation software ANSYS Workbench, the structural strength was verified, and the rationality of the design was validated via the development of the prototype device.
