Decoupling Reflector based on Reflected Phase Regulation for MIMO Array Antenna

In this paper, a concept of decoupling reflector based on reflected phase regulation (DSRPR) is proposed for isolation enhancement between MIMO antenna elements. Firstly, an array antenna having only 0.01λ0 edge-to-edge spacing between adjacent elements is chosen as the initial antenna (IA). Secondly, on the basis of theoretical analyses, DSRPR is developed as the wideband decoupling structure. The DSRPR consists of multiple sub-wavelength metal reflective patches loaded by open-circuit stubs, which are printed on a thin superstrate of antenna array. Working principles of DSRPR are illustrated by theory and simulation results. Secondly, on the basis of theoretical analyses, DSRPR is developed as the wideband decoupling structure for IA. Compared with array antenna decoupling surface (ADS), the antenna using MADS shows lower profile.
