Grid Integrated Bidirectional EV Battery Charger in V2G-G2V Mode With Improved Power Quality

This paper presents a model intended to integrate a single-phase grid and a bidirectional electric vehicle battery charger with G2V-V2G capability. The model consists of a 230 V, 50Hz single-phase grid, a non-isolated bidirectional charger and a high voltage battery. In order to ensure that the cost of installation is low and installation is hassle-free, bidirectional on-board chargers are more preferred currently. With the vehicle to grid (V2G) and grid to vehicle (G2V) mode, on-board charger can be turned into a smart EV charger which in turn could be used for a number of purposes. Also, the integration between grid and electrical vehicle must be such that the THD content in grid current in V2G mode, ripple in battery current and ripple in voltage across dc link during G2V mode must be within well-defined limits. The results obtained through the MATLAB simulation of the proposed model will also be shown in order to validate the control strategy used for grid integration.
