Cyber Physical Security of a Smart Grid: A Review

With advancements of smart grids which are, in fact, based on the concept of reliable two-way communication between smart devices, are part of cyber physical systems (CPS). The CPS is a system that is the integration of the physical (Sensors), computational (actuators) and communicational network (s). With the increasing energy demand, the demand for such highly advanced grids had also been increased. And it comes with great responsibilities. These grids are mainly vulnerable to malicious trojans (Black Energy) and spyware which could easily hijack the system. However, many kinds of research have been made to date, but they ‘failed’ to give a broader aspect of security. Mainly security system uses ‘Target location’ based software/methods which are indeed insufficient for the purpose. Comprehensive analysis, classification of attack and real-time health monitoring of the grid and its components have been addressed in this review paper.
