Analysis of Echo from Human Heart due to UWB Pulse using EM Solver

This paper analyses the echoes from human heart based on the frequency response which is studied from the simulation of a layered model of UWB pulse propagation through a human thorax. Implementation of the dispersive dielectric behavior for human body tissues is done according to the Cole-Cole model. The power transmission coefficients are calculated in the ultra-wideband (UWB) frequency span of 1–10 GHz by employing EM simulation tool, CST Microwave Studio (MWS). The results show that the absolute magnitudes of these coefficients have a correspondence with the physical sizes of the periodically oscillating human heart. This unique feature resulting as the outcome of this work can be used as an indicator of the cardiac performance of a person.
