Design and development of an IoT-based smart ambulance system with patient monitoring

According to a study conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority in 2018, an average of 34 Filipinos are killed daily due to traumatic accidents met on the road. Aside from the physical damage, the victims acquired from the accident, one problem that led them to their demise was the poor emergency response and treatment they received due to delay and lack of communication between the rescue team and the hospital. This study provides vital interaction between the users and the system in contrast with the traditional emergency healthcare provision for trauma patients. It integrated the IoT system, providing more accessible and frequent communication between both parties. The researchers aim to design, build and test an ambulance supplement device prototype capable of transmitting patient personal information and patient data between the ambulance and hospital using IoT technology. Upon testing, the prototype could accurately read a patient's heart rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature. It transmitted patient data, consisting of the patient's information, the nature of the incident, and vital signs. The data is accurate from the transmission to reception regardless of distance. It notified the hospital, allowing them to be more prepared. The researchers developed a website for uploading data that can be accessed by the hospital and rescue team. The researchers created a prototype that meets the quality standard compared to a recognized medical measuring device.
