Argo: Projects’ Time-Series Data Fetching and Visualizing Tool for GitHub

GitHub, which has more than 10 million repositories, attracts the targets of mining software repositories. Analyzing and investigating GitHub repositories provide clues to improve activities in software development. However, there is no standard method to access source code change histories and communication histories. This paper aims to implement a tool (Argo) to fetch communication histories from GitHub. Argo accepts users’ GraphQL queries to fetch the communication histories recorded on GitHub and draws line charts of their transition. As a case study, we implement three types of GraphQL queries for fetching data of stargazers, issues, and pull requests from 11 repositories of famous programming languages managed on GitHub. Argo can fetch the number of entries per second of stargazers, issues, and pull requests data are 145.19, 81.27, and 139.90, respectively. Also, stargazers of golang/go required the most consumed time for fetching; the number of entries was 96,425, and they spent 716 seconds. Finally, we showed that our tool could draw the line charts from fetched data.
