Abstract:

Visible light communication (VLC) systems are the ultimate solution to ever-increasing indoor data traffic. Shorter VLC distances are a predominant limitation and in this work, a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) VLC system at 160 Gbps capacity and a prolonged reach of 22 m is presented by incorporating polarization division multiplexed (PDM) Quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) and digital signal processing (DSP). Moreover, the performance of semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) and erbium doped fiber amplifier is compared in terms of error vector magnitude percentage (EVM%) and log bit error rate (log BER). Results revealed that SOA performs far better than EDFA at given VLC link lengths.
