How to charge Easy Bikes in Bangladesh the smart way

Electric three-wheeler vehicles provide valuable transport service throughout Bangladesh. They are typically recharged from late evening till early morning in garages of at least 40 vehicles, using low-cost chargers. The distribution peak load is significantly affected by electric three-wheeler. The paper proposes a smart charger design, with hardware cost of about 2 US-Dollar per charger. Grid overload is detected at the local transformer and a MQTT curtailment signal is sent via the 2G Mobile network to the garage controller. The garage controller, in turn, will select the chargers to be switched, based on available local measurements. Switching is done via WiFi controlled AC relays located throughout the garage. Validation of the design is planned in a future pilot study.
