Orientation-Independent Flower-Shaped Chipless RFID Tag for ISM Band Applications

The Chipless RFID technology is one of the fastest growing technologies for identification of objects, tracking applications, biomedical and packaging applications as well because of its low cost, planar structure and ease of fabrication convenience. The chipless RFID is considered to be the replacement of the barcode technology with the advantages that it provides like non-line of sight detection, low power usage and implementation of sensor functionality into the tags. One of the challenges to design a Chipless RFID tag is to read tag's ID independent of its orientation. The reader should read the tags ID and information regardless of the environmental structures on which the tags are placed. To ensure that Orientation independent tags are designed in this paper. So, an Orientation independent flower-shaped tag is presented in the paper which produces the co-polar and cross-polar Radar Cross Section information. The proposed resonator resonates at 5.8 GHz frequency that can be suitable for ISM band applications.
