Low Power and Long Range Dual-Mode Bluetooth Controller

Wireless communication technologies like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, Thread etc. use the same unlicensed 2.4GHz frequency band for their operation. Due to the shared nature or the channel, these technologies interference to each other when they operate in the same time-frequency-space region. Bluetooth Low Energy in Bluetooth version 4.0 will maintain similar to Bluetooth Classic by maintaining same similar communication range with same cost and reduced power consumption. Bluetooth low energy transmits data over a few meters only. In order to overcome this a long range mode with the latest updates called Bluetooth 5.0, an updated version that cover beyond few meters to few kilometer. It is very important to note here that the latest Bluetooth 5.0 helps in achieving long range communication with is primarily important to have a robust communication with added benefits of extended range and reducing noise. This paper explains a new range mode for Dual Mode Bluetooth controller using Bluetooth version 5.0. Three steps to note here for the full process. In first step, the design of the Long-range module is completed by designing a top module, which consists of transmission and reception modules. The second step to develop Universal Verification Methodology (UVM) based environment. The last step is to develop various test cases to check the functionality of the design using simulation.
