A Reliable Reset Method for Softcore Microprocessor Symtem

Softcore microprocessor is a microprocessor implemented by FPGA logic synthesis. It significantly improves the flexibility of FPGA, and had been widely used in a variety of scenarios. In softcore microprocessor systems, the microprocessor logical, program runtime memory logical and memory data initialization are established at the same time during FPGA configuration operation. Conventional microprocessor reset methods, such as activating microprocessor reset pin or executing exception vector, do not perform FPGA configuration operation, and data in program runtime memory remains unchanged after reset. The missing of memory data initialization leads to program execution exception after reset. This paper proposed a reliable reset method for softcore microprocessor system in FPGA, a reset management module is induced to control microprocessor reset process and insert memory data initialization process. The experiment results verified the effectiveness of this method.
